Cindy James Unsolved Mysteries Episode

Cindy James Unsolved Mysteries Episode Number: That number is Season 3, Episode 18, and you can watch the full episode below. In my opinion, the death of Cindy James is still unsolved to this day. Although, I believe her cause of death has officially been ruled as an "unknown event". Very strange case. In my opinion this was murder, and the two prime suspects should be Cindy's ex-husband, Roy Makepeace, and Pat McBride. He was apparently a lover of Cindy's and was a Policeman involved in the investigation. Whoever killed Cindy has gotten away with it so far.

Listen to what Neal Hall (A reporter for the Vancouver Sun at the time) says about the surveillance of Cindy's house. He says that they (The Police) had 24 hour surveillance on her house for days on end. And when the surveillance was on her house nothing would happen. Could this be a sign that the officer who was her lover (Pat McBride) knew about the surveillance and that's why nothing happened during that time.

Certainly seems plausible. He was an indsider after all, and would have all the information on what was happening with the case / surveillance, officers who were taking part in the stake out, the dates etc. Actually, just reading an update, and it turns out Pat McBride moved into Cindy's house while on the case, and would you believe it. Nothing happened while he was staying there.

Also, when the surveillance was taken off, the harassment / stalking started again. I hope the Police at the time, or even now if there are any police / detectives still looking into this case have considered this, because it seems pretty obvious that this would be an area well worth investigating.

Listen to a recorded phone call that Cindy received (and recorded)

Listen to The Phantom Stalker - The Cindy James Mystery (Interesting Podcast)

And maybe that is why Cindy didn't want to speak to anyone about what was going on. Perhaps she felt threatened because Pat McBride was a Police officer, a supposedly trusted upstanding pillar of the community, and she was being looked at as crazy woman who was making up lies. With no solid evidence to prove any crime against Pat McBride, who are people going to believe.

No evidence can also be a clue. A police officer would know how cover his tracks and leave no evidence. If it was Pat McBride (I'm not saying it definitely was), he did a great job of making Cindy look like she was crazy and making it all up. Either way, what a bizarre case. I guess her death will remain a mystery, for now.

So many questions... I found this very interesting comment on YouTube from Linda Berg https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2QQF1cZUso31C5Csq_TPEQ and thought this would be a good place to share it.

I grew up in Richmond BC, lived at Blundell and Gilbert for years and know this area extremely well. Where I lived (Blundell & Gilbert) is halfway between where her car was found at the shopping center at Blundell & #2 Rd and where her body was found just north of Blundell on #3 Rd.

She was barefoot when she was found. That's a long way to walk barefoot. Also banking hours being what they were in 1989, chances are she was at the bank during banking hours & so would have been seen walking barefoot along Blundell towards #3 Rd.

Blundell is on a bus route and is a well traveled road, even in 1989. If by chance she'd taken a bus, most likely she would have been remembered by the driver or other passengers.

I've always thought there was something 'off' about this case. there doesn't seem to be any problems with her until after she and Makepeace had returned from a sailing trip.

There she supposedly saw Makepeace chopping up 2 bodies in a cabin on one of the northern Gulf Islands. she'd stayed behind, he'd gone off on his own, She decided to go for a walk and stumbled across the scene.

After that is when her problems started. Whether because what she saw traumatized her so much & had a mental break down or because Makepeace was trying to drive her insane so nobody would believe anything she said I don't know. BUT he was a psychiatrist. he could have done the Ultimate 'Gaslight' on her.

It was Dr Termansen of N Van, also a psychiatrist, who admitted her to Lions Gate Hospital Psych Ward. I would bet that he and Makepeace knew each other. but who knows for sure.

Cindy disappeared at a time when she was at the start of a 5 day break from Richmond General Hospital. she most likely wouldn't have been missed right away because of that. Would Makepeace have known her work schedule?

Unknown but it's not unlikely that he could have easily found out. was Cindy mentally ill and or mentally unstable? It would appear to be so but the question is WHY? I think anyone who, if what she is said is true, and she did have people as witnesses to some of the incidents she described, would be driven to at least a highly agitated & unstable emotional state where she'd feel suicide was the only way out.

I would like to see her voice patterns compared with the tape Makepeace made to see if they are the same. forensics can do that now. It's difficult to come to any solid conclusion to this case but my opinion is that the Mounties did NOT get their man in the Cindy James case.
